press-in axial fan

press-in axial fan

A press-in axial fan is an auxiliary mine ventilator that employs an axial impeller to deliver high airflow at moderate static pressure, ideal for ducted press-in systems serving headings and faces. The axial configuration offers compact size, low mass, and favorable efficiency when matched to the system curve. Where the duty requires higher pressure—long duct runs, numerous elbows, or elevated leakage—contra-rotating axial stages can be used to extend the pressure envelope without increasing diameter.

Typical features include smooth inlet collectors, optimized blade profiles, and optional silencers to control noise near occupied areas. For gassy or dusty mines, explosion-proof motors and enclosures are specified along with anti-static ducting and compliant starters. VFD integration enables fine control of airflow as resistance changes with advance, keeping operation near peak efficiency and avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.

Selection is based on required face quantity and total pressure of the duct system. Correct installation—airtight joints, smooth transitions, proper hangers, and a well-proportioned diffuser or nozzle at the discharge—preserves pressure and reduces recirculation risk. Commissioning validates quantity and static pressure at the face, and routine monitoring of vibration and temperature supports predictive maintenance and sustained reliability.

  • Strengths: high specific flow, compact package, efficient press-in supply
  • Options: single or contra-rotating stages, EX variants, silencers, VFD
  • Applications: headings, crosscuts, workshops, localized cooling
