Metal Mine Ventilation Fans

Our metal mine ventilation fan range includes FKZ axial-flow and FKCDZ counter-rotating fans for underground metal and non-metal mines. Aerofoil blades and optimized airflow passages support aerodynamic efficiency. The fans use welded steel casings, with protective coatings selected to suit the installation environment.

Both series use direct motor–impeller drive, with motor ratings matched to the required operating point. Standard configurations are intended for air without methane or other explosive gases. Selection also considers dust conditions, operating temperature, noise limits and required equipment protection.

For new installations, mine expansion and fan replacement, we offer project-specific options for fan size, motor specifications, materials and inlet and outlet connections. Our team provides model recommendations and performance curves, with installation guidance and any additional services specified in the quotation.

FKZ and FKCDZ Series Comparison

Compare the airflow, total pressure and motor power ranges of the two series below.

ParameterFKZFKCDZ
Airflow range (m³/s)2.0–164.25.5–440.0
Total pressure (Pa)38–2,409306–6,921
Motor power (kW)1.1–2502 × 18.5 to 2 × 1,000
Fan typeSingle-stage axial-flowCounter-rotating axial-flow
Typical dutyMain ventilation and mine-wide airflowMain exhaust and higher-resistance ventilation

Ranges cover multiple models. Maximum airflow and maximum total pressure are not one operating point. For FKCDZ, 2 × denotes two motors.

Metal Mine Fan Projects

Selected iron, tungsten and gold mine installations, with the fan model and published performance ranges.

Applications by Mine Type

Applications cover the underground metal and non-metal mine types below. The list describes project types, not completed installations.

Metal Mines

  • Gold and Silver Mines

Underground gold, silver and gold–silver mines, including shaft, decline and roadway developments.

  • Copper Mines

Main fan installations, ventilation upgrades and replacement duties in underground copper and copper-polymetallic mines.

  • Iron Ore Mines

Mine-wide intake or return-air ventilation for underground iron ore workings.

  • Lead and Zinc Mines

Ventilation for production areas and connected workings in underground lead, zinc and lead–zinc–silver mines.

  • Nickel and Cobalt Mines

Underground nickel, cobalt, nickel–cobalt and copper–cobalt mines, with gas and dust conditions reviewed during selection.

  • Hard-Rock Lithium Mines

Underground hard-rock lithium and applicable spodumene projects; not salt-lake brine extraction.

  • Tungsten, Tin and Molybdenum Mines

Ventilation for new workings, expansion and fan replacement in underground tungsten, tin and molybdenum mines.

  • Other Metal and Polymetallic Mines

Underground mines producing manganese, chromite, antimony, platinum-group metals, tantalum, niobium or mixed ores.

Non-Metal Mines

  • Phosphate Mines

Main ventilation for access routes, production areas and return-air networks in underground phosphate rock mines.

  • Limestone, Dolomite and Gypsum Mines

Ventilation for underground roadways, production areas and service zones in limestone, dolomite and gypsum mines.

  • Fluorspar and Barite Mines

Underground fluorspar and barite mines, with dust exposure and coating requirements assessed for each installation.

  • Rock Salt and Potash Mines

Underground rock salt and solid potash mining—not brine or solution extraction. Review corrosion exposure and gas hazards.

  • Graphite, Talc and Magnesite Mines

New and replacement ventilation equipment for underground graphite, talc and magnesite mines.

  • Other Underground Non-Metal Mines

Underground trona, diamond and solid borate mines, subject to site-specific ventilation and protection requirements.

Application scope: These examples concern underground mine ventilation, not mineral-processing exhaust or surface dust suppression. Check gas and dust hazards, site conditions and equipment protection for each project.

For development headings and ducted air supply, see metal mine local ventilation fans. For source dust capture, see mine dust extraction fans.

New and Replacement Fan Selection

Send the information you already have. Use the design requirements for a new fan, or existing equipment records for replacement review.

New Installations and Expansion

  • Operating point: Required airflow, static or total pressure, and any planned future operating points.

  • Site and power: Voltage, frequency, altitude, temperature and gas or dust conditions.

  • Installation: Fan location, available space, connections, supports and control requirements.

Existing Fan Replacement

  • Existing fan: Fan and motor nameplates showing model, speed and rated power.

  • Performance: Available curves or operating measurements, plus the target airflow and pressure.

  • Site fit: Connection and mounting dimensions, maintenance access and reason for replacement.

Match the replacement to the required operating point, not motor power alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choose FKZ when a single-stage axial fan can meet a general main ventilation or mine-wide airflow duty. Choose FKCDZ for main exhaust or return-air duty and for ventilation networks with higher resistance. Final selection must be checked against the required airflow, total or static pressure, system resistance and the proposed fan curve.
No. The standard FKZ and FKCDZ configurations shown on this page are intended for air without methane or other explosive gases. If explosion protection is required, provide the gas conditions, required protection level and documentation required in the destination market so that an appropriate explosion-protected main fan configuration can be evaluated.
Provide the required airflow, static or total pressure, ventilation duty, mine type, altitude, temperature, gas and dust conditions, voltage, frequency, installation position, connection dimensions and control requirements. For a replacement project, also send the fan and motor nameplates, available drawings, the existing fan curve or operating measurements, and the target airflow and pressure.
No. Motor power alone does not determine the required airflow, pressure or operating point. The replacement fan must be selected for the required operating point using its performance curve. Rotational speed, connection and mounting dimensions, maintenance access, motor loading and any planned future operating points must also be checked.
The FKZ and FKCDZ series on this page are intended for main or mine-wide ventilation duties. For development headings, blind workings and ducted local ventilation, use an appropriate metal mine local ventilation fan, such as an FK or FKD series selected for the required airflow at the duct outlet and the system resistance.
Project-specific configurations can be evaluated for voltage, frequency, motor specifications, fan size, materials, protective coatings, and inlet and outlet connections. The final configuration, technical documents, optional items and supply scope must be confirmed in the technical proposal and quotation.
